Gladiator.....Russell Crowe is better looking than Charlton Heston

Gladiator because Ben Hur is really really long

Ben Hur with the classical chariot race.

BenHur~Chuck Heston for one~

gladiator!just love the evilness that joaquin phoenix played..he's so talented.

Ben Hur is the quintessential 'historical epic story' dude, it revolves around the whole period of that particular era. I've got the 'gladiator' film & watched it few times but for sheer quality of acting/filming/directorship etc., & historical content there's no contest in my viewing!....

HBO's Rome seasons 1 and 2
I, Claudius
.
Far better shows about ancient Rome.

The high spots in Ben Hur (sea battle, chariot race) were brilliantly staged, given the special effects on offer at the time. They have quite rightly become classic sequences.
But overall, it has to be Gladiator. The powerfuly emotive, relentless storyline wins out over Ben Hur's occasional tendency to lapse into inertia. Plus the fact that the battle in the German forests in Gladiator is one of the most stunning of its kind ever filmed.

both for different reasons

Ben Hur!

Gladiator. I didnt enjoy it that much the first time I watched it but Ive seen it a few times since and I love it. I couldnt really get into Ben Hur

ben hur, because its a classic.
