No Country For Old Men: one of the best movies ever?!

Question: Hi. I have just watched 'No Country For Old Men', for the second time, and now im my opinion, it is one of the best five movies ever, personally my first.

I loved everything about it. It was beautifully made and shot and the western locations were stunning. The characters were engaging, in particulary Anton Chigurh, a villian to be rememberd, amazingly played by Javier Bardem. The ending was fantastic, tying up all the themes of fatem dreams and chance.

Your thoughts on the film. What did you like, and not like ?

I just thought it was beautifully done. I loved that there wasn't a soundtrack to the movie and I felt that everyone who was in it did a superb acting job. I was a little disappointed that Josh Brolin didn't get recognized for his character of Llewelyn. His performance was definitely Oscar worthy.

I agree...It's one of the best movies I've ever seen as well.

The Coen brothers are brilliant. They find new and creative ways of telling stories.

I didnt like the violence

I loved the film but I wasn't crazy about the ending. I plan on watching it again, maybe I will understand the ending better the second time. I agree the western locations were very stunning. The acting was amazing

haven't seen..plan to~

not even close to the best ever..... almost fell asleep watching it.

I think it was one of the most overhyped movies ever. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was enjoyable -- Javier Bardem is amazing, and he played such a calm, collected role that I wanted to cringe. Engrossing, fun to watch ... but not anywhere near my idea of best movie ever. There were scenes in it that were absolutely pointless (like the final one with the sheriff explaining his dreams) and did nothing to advance the plot, and honestly didn't have anything to do with the movie. Those scenes were all over the book as well, but I wish the Coens hadn't inserted them into the movie; it was a waste of space and further prolonged an unnecessarily long film.

completely agree...he totally deserved the Oscar...and the villain (Anton Chigurh)..was a piece of work...and I also admire the movie There will be blood...

I don't know where I would rank it as a "best movie" but it certainly was thought provoking. I can't remember a movie that has caused some much discussion between my husband and myself as to what it meant. That's why I came to Answers today...to see if others had questions and thoughts about the film. From what I read, many people are disappointed in the movie but I think they were looking for all the plot lines to be tied up in a neat little easily understood bow. Yes, the ending threw us, but I think the sheriff, now retired, realized that he didn't know what to do now... Is that what the title "No Country For Old Men" means?
