This is just my opinion, but I feel he is very profound in what he said. Think about it, we all have our fears, our deep little secrets. We all have a point in time in our lives where we daydream about getting even with someone, sometimes in the worst way. Horror movies do have a dirty job to do! They have to be thrilling and exciting. They have to grab your attention - all of your emotions - fear, horror, wonder, amazement, etc. All of the great horror movies have done this very well, they dig deep inside at what most of us would consider horror and play at it quite wonderfully. In an interview Steven has even stated that alot of his stories comes from childhood fears, and things that he himself experienced. Other things has taken a flight on his imagination and he has taken the ride along with it. This has been a good thing for him because he has written some of the best horror stories ever which have become some of the best movies ever.
I believe these are only some of the reasons for his two statements you have posted. He is a very interesting and weird man, this he has even admitted to. But, he is real, he is human, and he has provided us with a look into his imagination.

I think it makes no sense. But then again Stephen King is a bit crazy o-o

girl say what

I think they are meant to play off of natural fears, or on things that interest people. I go to every zombie movie that comes out. i love them.

Stephen King is quite the egotist, his characters always have stupid cliche horror names like 'mort',

I tend not to listen to him.

UMMM I HATE HORROR FILMS SO I AM SORRY I CANNOT HELP YOU.

People who like horror, like it for the subconscious sadistic side of them. Its like a person who loves to read about murderers, they know they will never kill anyone but reading about someone else who does excites them on the subconsicous level.

exactly, "Girl, say what??"

There is some truth to that, but not necessarily.. it appeals to us because of the fact that we like to be frightened. Also, Stephen said he doesn't think he writes horror (which is such a lie) he had another term.

only reason people are afraid of ghosts is that movies make it that way. have you ever seen someone whos been killed by a ghost???.

Stephen King is a whack-job. He has to be to come up with all that crap he comes up with.

Is scaring people a good wholesome job, even for their own entertainment. No. That is what King meant by that remark.

well Stephen is basicaly saying that the stories that he tells all have an element of fantasy.. and can SOMEHOW relate to all of us...

It's kinda hard to explain

The unknown is scary - knowing maybe even scarier.
Going in the noisy dark basement
Outside in the fog so thick you can't see
The dreaded dark closet

hmmm i guess because we all have hidden dark sides in all of us. Some more than others. If we didnt have a lil dark side, then we wouldnt be that interested in movies that show tons of blood, dead people, monsters, ect.

People watch scary movies because were all interested in seeing lots of blood and lots of people dead. Curiosity comes out. I think hes saying that horror movies attracts our bad selves and curiosity.

Though S.K is kind of odd :)

i prefer to call them 'orrors.its the british way.
