Is it weird to feel attached to characters in TV shows and movies, and to miss t!

Question: It primarily has to do with the amount of time you invest in the show... like any good friendship... and once it is over, you feel this emptiness in your life...some people even have dreams with the characters in them, because of the amount of time these characters are in their concious mind.

Perfect example: I never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it was on TV but just netflixed the entire series (lol...sue me for a- never seeing it, or b- watching it at all!). Anyway, the only thing I have watched for the last several weeks has been this show (snow days don't help either). I recently finished the run and deeply miss it.

Why? Because, like real people, the characters and plots became part of my daily routine. When there were no more episodes, those several hours a night i devoted to the show were now empty, as was my concious: no more Buffy and friends. Now imagine if you devote every week to a show or character for years (!) and suddenly it is taken from you: the effect is the same as a death.

Think of the Harry Potter series: that gang visited you every couple of years like friends from England. Now that they series is finished, no more visits. Nothing more to expect.

So as a long winded answer to your query, no, it is not weird to feel this at all.

Not really...I tend to get attached to characters on The L Word

na unless ur ocd bwt it

like wanting to be the character or just like being there friends like you would be like a cool buddy cause yeah i feel like that to sometimes wow i though i was the only one

not at all. thats what i look for in movies and tv.

It might be good to give your show a break for a while, as it seems you are becoming emotionally attached to a fictious character. I think it is common if you really like the show, but just remember that life doesn't happen on tv, tv is just something you watch when your passing time. Don't let it be all that you do.

Yes.
Its make believe.

Not at all. The ending of the Star Wars movies, Friends, and even the Harry Potter Books got me all sad. Makes me feel kinda old too. Don't know why..

Get a life populated by real people and the answer should become clear to you.

Not at all...why do you think the ratings for many TV shows go down the drain when the most popular characters leave the show or get killed? Because it's normal for people to feel attached to character they identify with on an emotional level, or they wouldn't be regular viewers in the first place.

Not at all, it's what they're supposed to do.

As long as you never forget they ARE just fictional characters, and the actors who play them can't be held accountable for what the writers make their characters do.

Not really, as once you watch the show its sort of like looking in on their life, you learn about them, just as you would a person in real life. So its not really wierd to miss them.

No, I miss Neo from The Matrix series.

thats what makes a good tv show.
