Did anyone else think that many of the boys in Disney's "Newsies" !

Question: (For any of you who can't remember it, it's a 1992 Disney movie-musical starring Christian Bale about a paperboy strike in the 1800's)
I just finished watching the movie. Haven't seen it in years.
One word: wowtheyallseemverygay.

I don't know why. Just the whole lovelorn looks/sharing beds/constantly touching/throwing arms around each other/thing made me think.

If anyone here has seen it, what did you think?

Dude, Newsies rocks. Yes, they are very gay. And cute and sweet ^_^ Great movie. I'm guessing the people who replied to this question haven't exactly seen it.

Disney. Gay. These words keep coming up together; am I the only one that sees a connection?

It's a lame a*s Disney musical...what did you expect?? Shakespearean prose?

Boy, people sure are all uptight if guys hug etc. The director and the screen writers were simply showing you what those times were like...and that was historical...that was back when Gay meant happy. These kids were real...they exsited...they had no family except one another...so hugging not a big deal...bed sharing was a fact of life...heck my mom used to have to sleep with her sister all through her life including during highschool....

We are spoiled nowadays.

PS...when this movie was made...the actor playing "Racetrack" was in his thirties...i knew him at "The American Academy of Dramatic Arts" in NYC...you'd of never guessed that huh?

I agree with the person explaining this as behavior that was innocent at that time.

If you think touching is a sign of gayness, I suppose all basketball, football, etc., players are gay. They take showers together, slap butts, hug each other, group hug, etc. Why is that OK touching but if friends hug or show concern for each other, it's "gay"? That makes no sense at all.

Besides, Gen X and Y seem to find bodily contact essential among friends and lovers alike. Do you go around accusing each other of...? Oh, yes, you do! I read and hear the accusations at Y!A, on TV, and in movies.

So, which do you want: complete hands off or all over each other? I'm getting seriously confused by these notions.

In the 1800s, it was a completely different world. Have you read about the living conditions then? You think that each person had a bed, plenty to eat and drink, and other luxuries? I think you had better do some reading before you start to throw such foolish accusations around. A lot of the youth today wouldn't have survived back then. I know this from my studies and from listening to stories told by my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and other relatives. My mom was saying that, once upon a time, friends could hold hands while they were walking or throw an arm around shoulders.

Today's confusion as to touch can make one wish to tear hair out. I see young people draped over each other. What are others to think? If they say, "Gay!", you would get angry and say, "We're friends!" Yet, if you see others touch, YOU say, "Gay!" People need to straighten out their thinking. For now, it's the old adage: "Damned if you do and damned if you don't."
