In memories of geisha, what happens at the endin?!

Question: Memoirs of a Geisha... would you like to specify how far you got? Sayuri sleeps with the Minister to try to throw Nobu out of her life, but Pumpkin brings the Chairman instead of Nobu. Nobu nevertheless withdraws his offer of becoming her danna, and Sayuri returns to her okiya heartbroken. She's called to the Ichiriki for a meeting with Imawura Electric; assumes it's Nobu and arrives to find the Chairman instead. He tells her he has always remembered her from the day at the river when she was crying and he gave her his handkerchief, and he had asked Mameha to take on "a girl with unusual blue eyes". Sayuri realizes that Mameha was teaching her on his instruction as he had always loved her. The Chairman becomes her danna, and she moves to America where she lives in New York with regular visits from him. The story closes by telling that the Chairman has since died, as have Mameha and Hatsumomo etc., so she had decided to take on an American novelist to tell her story.

- That's from the book, the movie may have some minor differences. And it's been a while since I read it so you might want to read/watch again anyway.

She ends up with the chairman, even though she will still be second to his wife.
