Question: Can anyone explain this movie to me? It was very scary and good, I just didn't understand. Was Charlie a ghost who possesed them? What Charlie a split personality?
Did her dad really kill her mom and the woman he pushed out the window?

I agree with what's been said before - he had a split personality and that personality killed his wife, the love interest, and the cat. The woman he pushed out the window (the dad's love interest) was getting close to the truth, and was asking too many questions, like above said.
I'm almost positive the writing was done by Charlie, but if it was the little girl, it would have been under Charlie's direction.
As far as him wanting to kill his daughter, originally the personality (Charlie) was using her to torment her father and weaken him so much that he would lose control of his mind and succumb to Charlie. At the end, he's taken complete control of her father, and doesn't need her anymore. She actively rebels against him by calling in the family friend for assistance, which irritates him. As a completely violent personality, he has no emotional connection to her and would rather silence her than let her get away.

Yes Charlie and the dad (Robert DeNiro) are the same, he didn't kill the mom, his split personality developed afterwards. The reason "Charlie" wanted to kill the daughter is because she didn't what to play with him anymore. Also the woman he liked because he was crazy? She was just asking the wrong questions to the little girl. I don't remember the neighbor.
Sweet movie by the way.
her dad is the killer and he killed his wife but now at the end she became her very own charlie,
i saw this a while ago, though if i remeber correctly the dad (robert deniro) had a split personality, and murdered his wife and the lady out the window, the girls imaginary friend 'charlie' was her dads other personality somehow, im not quite sure. I cant remeber much else sorry,.
