1) Cause they're more genuine then American actors.
2) Are less known (ok not Daniel Day-Lewis or Tilda Swinton but in general) so it's easier for the audience to picture them as the character they play.
3) Cause they were in some good movies, which is a precondition to get an Oscar for acting.
Because both are talented actors....
I can't argue with either one. Besides it's not the Academy Awards of the United States. It is worldwide. I just wish they'ed stop with the best song thing and start awarding for anime.
