A Normal pulse rate will be different depending on the age and general fitness of a person. I'll give you some stats for my 18 year old son, who is physically fit.
Every day: 60 bpm
funny movie: 65 bpm
nature movie: 50 bpm (his sleeping rate) lol
action movie: 70 bpm
scary movie: 70 bpm

umm wow thats a hard one, just cuz we all take our heartbeats while watching? i would say...

your heartbeat increases during action/suspense and scary

is calmer during nature

and i dunno...

my pulse is higher during the action and scary ones
it's preaty normal durning the comedy and calm during the nature one

count your heart rate at a normal pace, count it when you're watching each of the above types of movies movies and write it down. Tell your friends to do the same and taht will give you all the data you need to make your claim (mostlikely that suspense movies make your heart race faster than a comedy - for example).

Just bs your way through add 5 bpm for a funny movie, subtract 5 bpm for a nature movie, add 10 bpm for action, 15 bpm for scary.

A normal pulse rate for a healthy adult, while resting, can range from 60 to 90
sorry that was all i was able to find :(

It varies based on the individual.

Place you first two fingers under your jaw bone near the artery and press in slightly until you feel a pulse then count one thousand one, one thousand two....on up to one thousand ten. Take the number of heart beats you get and multiply that times twn and that is appoximately you heart rate. .

All you have to do to get an accurate answer is repeat this process for each of the things you described.

My belief is that your heart beat will not vary because you are not doing anything physical to change it. You synaptic nerve impulses may vary in your brain based on different stimuli but you heart is a muscle first and foremost related to motor skills not mental stimuli.

Results will also vary based on whether you watch the films lying down, sitting up, or standing. You will have to check all three. Lying down should be the lowest, then standing, then sitting down, then standing.

BTW, it would appear you need a heart monitor if you are serious about this study because you would have to be hooked up throughout a movie to get the ranges on when a person laughs or screams. I doubt a hospital or a doctor will offer you one but they are rentable from a medical supply company. It will be a bit costly though for a high school project. Try calling a disributor in your area and explaing the situation and asking them if you can borrow or use a display model some how. You would be surprised what some people will do for education these days.

Here is some research material for you to look at.

Hey you...

Relax...you're going to do just fine!
This is an excellent idea for a science project :-)

The best way to conduct your experiment is to obtain a group of 40 or more male and female subjects.

First record their resting heart rate, which should be around 70 bpm for males...and 75 bpm for females.

The most effective way to do this is with a heart monitor.

Next you would randomly divide the subjects into groups of four and have each sub-group of ten view a five minute clip of a designated genre.

You will find that action and horror movies will increase the heart rate to about 115 bpm, while comedies only raise it to 85 bpm.

You can create a colored bar graph to depict the subjects pulse rate: before, during and after clip viewing for each group.

You may also want to include a discussion portion where you could explain the limitations of the study.

For example, sociopaths will have little heart rate variability. Histrionics or victims of PTSD will show heightened variability even under the most benign circumstances.

Another consideration is that a subject's heart rate is effected only as much as s/he is engaged in the movie. Perhaps the quality of movie or subject's lack of interest in movies will confound the data...

Good luck to you!
You're going to do GREAT!
