Do you have even one title to go by? I know actors quite well, and I might be able to identify him even it it's by a single movie title~though more would be better.
I tried to think of Western actors who look like Tracy, but none come to mind right now.

Agree that the resemblance between a younger Spencer Tracy and James Whitmore is remarkable.
Nonetheless, I don't believe Whitmore appeared in westerns in the 40/50s, though he did some later. My personal favorite is his role as Gus, the driver, in Huston's landmark caper film, The Asphalt Jungle. Which btw and ot is Marilyn Monroe's first A film (she was in All about Eve, of course), where she has more than one scene and two lines.
