Why can't action films nowadays be like Rambo?!

Question: a film that's made for men and women like 300 and Transformers is NOT real action. Because action films of the 80's were catered for guys, they were made to entertain guys with male fantasies like killing, blood, mutilation and all these hardcore scenes, not it's all wussified, Action films are for MEN! if some girls like action, more power to them, that's fine, but generally Action is meant to appeal to male audiences like Rambo, Commando, Raw Deal. Red Heat, Predator, now it's all cheesy with bad acting and pretty boys, no big tough guys with muscles. love stories which are the key element of actions films now which is stupid.

everything is simple in these old films, now it's all about making long stupid speeches then flips and exaggerated crap to kill someone when all they can do is just bloody shoot. action films nowadays are plain stupid.

I know and totally agree, the new Rambo movie made me re-discover my love of action movies, and your view on the wannabe action hero pretty boys well I can't see zac efron ripping out a mans throat with his bare hands can you.

I'll Star it because i am in 100% agreeance

Politcal correctness

You have to know where to look.

Would you consider "Crank" or "Shoot 'Em Up"? True, there is a comic element to them, but there is a lot of action.

What about "The Transporter" or "War"?

how is 300 a date movie

Although I agree with you that actions movies were way more hardcore in the 80's, as a fan of the action genre, I have to say that the movies coming out nowadays are just better quality. I mean come on, you're dissing 300? That movie was revolutionary, totally set the standard and raised the bar for future action movies. It can only get better. And the so-called speeches, they only raise the level of drama and apprehension. It makes you want to see the result of what that person is saying even more. I can't recall a better line in a movie than when Queen Gorgo stabs Theron for betraying her and says "This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this. I am not your Queen." It just made the death 100 times better. And an action movie with no plot and no reason or driving force for the hero to take action (ie love, betrayal, death) is just empty and usually boring. There needs to be a point, and there needs to be drama. Otherwise just watch some torture-porn horror flick.

it's a completely different world we live in now. tastes and ideals change constantly. the current rambo movie is nothing but a throwback to older times where a phat rock beat and flashy cutting and explosions where what made a movie.

nowadays, i think, movie goers are more sophisticated. eg: i was faced with the choice of seeing rambo today actually and i choose juno instead. and you know what? i was happy with the choice.

if you wanna see those types of movies then rent them on dvd cos their time is now past.

Some of us find it interesting that you use these words to describe an action film: "hardcore - male fantasies - guys with muscles."

Says a lot about you.
