Question about the original Shining with Jack Nicholson.?!

Question: Just watched this movie and totally do not get the end. They were there in the late 70's early 80's, there meaning at the Overlook Motel watching it for the winter, so why at the end is there a picture with Jack on the wall at the hotel that says Overlook Hotel July 4th Ball 1921, I do not get it at all.

"You are the caretaker - You always were the caretaker"

That's a line in the movie when he's in the bar - dealing with his madness.

Reincarnation. It is a metaphor for the evil returning again and again.

it means that Jack is a part of the hotel's history

pretty sure it had something to do with nicholson actually being the dude in the picture in some form or another, that's about all i got for ya, it's been years since i've seen the movie

He becomes a permanent resident 'zombie' of that hotel.

Heeeerrrreeeess Johnny.

It means he is a ghost.

When he finally accepted to kill his family, he fully accepted that the hotel controlled him. So although he died in the end, the hotel still took complete control over him and he ended up as a part of the hotel's history. So for the next caretaker, instead of Grady, it would be Jack Torrance.

He became the new 'manager' in the stead of the other one. like he was there all the time. creepy

he became one with the hotel!
strange looking wife too......
redrum redrum.....................................

Gotta go with reincarnation on this one, too. A real trip of a movie. One of Kubrick's best.
