What do you think of this script idea for my film class?!

Question: There's a girl who has a creative writing assignment that needs to be typed. Her computer breaks, bu her parents say she needs to buy one with her own money. She wants to spend the least amount of money possible because she is saving for a car. While shopping with her friends, she finds a ridiculously cheap laptop (20 bucks). She figures that it wouldn't be that much of a problem to lose 20 bucks if the comp (computer) doesn't work. She eventually finds out that whatever she types comes true. At first she takes advantage by typing in all of her desires. But what she doesn't know is that the curse extends to anything typed into the comp (ims, emails etc) When she angrily ims one of her friends the trouble begins. The comp starts to take over (turns itself on and off, writes its own stories, sucks out ppls souls) and the girl must find the witch who placed this curse. In the end, the only way to defeat the comp is to draw out a demon and kill it, negating all of the wishes.

it sounds like a good starting block, i like the story. But if you are aiming towards a theatrical audience, i think that they would relate better if it was less computer and technology orientated. Maybe instead of a magic computer she got for 20 bucks, it should be a magic quill, and it should take place in the 1800's. and the last thing i would say is that it should be a nice enchantress that originally set the spell to be a good thing, but it had turned into something that she couldnt control. But through the help of the girl, they can break the spell and turn her world right again. (as in turning it back from her not having friends or something because of the magic quill) I think that its a great starting block.

Nice way to tie technology into the supernatural! It's almost like an episode of"The Twilight Zone"(which did this kind of thing better than anyone)It take the axiom"Be careful what you wish for..."and turns it on it's head! Go for it!

sounds good but its not that original. there was a movie that was very similar about a guy with a drawing pad. Its very hard to come up with new ideas these days. Guess thats why the writers make the big bucks. And so many sequals.

I think it's very original. But I'm paranoid. I'd delete your question before someone writes it for you!

I like the concept. What type of film class is this for? If it's to be a feature film for your graduate thesis, be sure that you develop it as fully as you can before you start shooting. Be clear on who your characters are, what their desires are and what are their fears. Make this something that can be part of your demo reel when you go looking for assignments.

If this is to be a short film project for an undergraduate class, I'd suggest you simplify it to make the shoot as manageable as possible and allow you to get the most out of your film for the least amount of money possible.

Good luck!

I like it. Very creative. It's makes ya think twice about checking your email huh? lol Good job.

good idea but..
I have read a short story by Stephen kIng called "Processors of the Gods" which starts with the same idea

ie he has a typewriter that what he types come true

but doesnt have have the issue with the witch etc....

but sounds like a great short story for a new Twilight Zone episode

personally...go for it
