A great horror movie is The Shining directed by Stanley Kubrick. It doesn't get any better than that. An amazing movie. Stanley Kubrick is the greatest director to have ever lived, and The Shining is a good example of his work.
Poltergeist. Saw it when I was 12, and it scared me more than anything.

The last good one I watched and Liked was the remake of "The Hills have Eyes". Not many good ones out there anymore everyone wants to make torture porn.
30 Days of Night was pretty good not great but differnt and good.

I'd pick "Halloween." Not only is this, in my opinion, one of the greatest horror films ever, it still manages to deliver the goods. Instead of going for gore, the magnificent cinematography manages to draw you into the suspense. John Carpenter's direction is exquisite, the cast is finely-tuned (especially veteran Donald Pleasance), and the score (also done by Carpenter) is genuinely creepy.
I gave this film 4 stars.

High tension..sick movie and will grab you within the first 5 mins.
