Is the movie The Number 23 as bad as the critics say?!

Question: I'm in the mood to watch a psychological thriller tonight and I've heard good and bad things about the Number 23. What do you think? And if you don't suggest that I watch it, what movie would be a suitable alternative?

No. It's worse. It's dull, wandering, unsurprising. It's a must-miss, trust me. Nothing there. Wait -- the extra features (about the number 23 and numerology and stuff) weren't bad. They were MUCH more interesting than the movie.

An alternative? You looking for something weird and psychological? Rent one of these:

Jacob's Ladder
Munich
Tideland
Death to Smoochy
The Fisher King

I agree with Chadd. I had to turn it off. My time is too precious.

it sounded like it would be a great movie because my boyfriend made it seem so great..but it was ok..it was kinda boring to me.

It wasnt as bad as it was confusing. I thought i didnt get the concept because I had ADD BUT, my friend who can sit and watch hours and hours of movies watched it and said he didnt understand it. The way the things happen in the movie are stupid. Dont watch it. A real waste of your time. Jim Carrey's acting was surprisingly good BUT, the movie was awful. The only good was the extras on the DVD in which the told you about all the #23. Like Hitler's death date adds up to 23

Try "Momento" instead.

it was one of the worst movies i have ever seen. the only lower than it is I know who killed me. so if i was you i wouldnt watch it.

The acting was fairly well done. For the mystery suspense type of movie it was, it was good. There are many many worse movies in this type of genre. Memento was not about a crazy killer, so I would not place the two in the same boat. I thought the story line was decent. Again, the acting is probably the most redeeming quality to the film. The ending is imaginative, but also slightly lame, like the writer had to cut some material out. The movie is not confusing. I have seen rediculous, bad, confusing movies like Mulholland drive. This movie is not like that. Memento is also not like that. This movie is very well explained in the end and if you are at all intelligent you should be able to take the trip with the main character through the plot all the way to the end. Some of the flashbacks are disorienting, but the color change and camera angle changes (the style of the shots) should allow you to get the hang of it fairly quickly. Critics are a little like weathermen... you really cannot rely on everything they say.

Yes, it really is awful. My sister rented it and it took me three times to make it through it because it was so boring! That is the last time I let her pick out a movie for Friday night. ;)

I would very highly suggest "Taking Lives". It stars Ethan Hawke and Angelina Jolie, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. :)

The bad thing about it was the plot. I actually watched it all and was amazed that usually its either bad acting vs good plot or bad acting and bad plot. The plot was horrible but Jim's acting was pretty good. I think he did his part, but the movie sucked. I took the role serious, i think he should try again but with a better movie story line.
