Why Didn't Darth Vader Break Off In A New Hope...?!

Question: I was watching 'Sith' this evening, and at one point in the opening battle Anakin wants to peel off to protect his escorts only for Obi-Wan to tell him to stay on target and let them do their job. Do you think this was deliberately written into the script to explain why Darth Vader tells his wingmen to 'stay on the leader' in A New Hope when some of the X Wings try to draw fire away from Luke Skywalker? Very good writing if it was.

Sorry, it's late...

This never occured to me, it's probably not a coincidence, just George Lucas's way of writing. From the p.o.v of the characters you could argue that Darth Vader, although had nothing but hatred for Obi Wan still recognized, and respected his teachings.

Probably not. Coincidence. Lucas is not a good writer.

I would say it was on purpose. the star wars saga is very well written and many things from the old movies have ties with the new movies

Anakin and Obi-Wan were making an attack run on Grevious' cruiser at the time, where as Vader was defending the Death Star from an assault by the (terrorists)Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Long live the Empire

Yeah, I never noticed that. I bet it's not a coincidence... they are pretty detailed.
I love that end part of ANH; it's one of my favorite sequences in the whole collection of movies.

Yahoo! You're all clear, kid, now let's blow this thing and go home.
