Idk, it was ok for a musical. I mean if they would have just had them talking and what not other then them singing the whole time. Depp isn't much for a singer. his acting is all right but other then that I didn't want to watch him sing for ever then just to have his throat slit.

the throat slitting was very well done though

The only thing I liked about it was Jonny Depp! :)

It was pretty dumb..

eeeee idk i have not seen it but i want to really bad!

I thought everyone knew that it was a musical. I didn't see it, because I think Tim Burton has only made crap since he finished 'Edward Scissorhands'. Sad, cause I love Johnny Depp.

I think if you had went in knowing it was a musical you would have enjoyed it much more.Lot's of blood..

Oh pleezzzzzzzzzz, looks like crap!

it got high reviews tho ?
is it really that bad?

i wouldn't go as far as you, but i was less than impressed. it wasn't even a musical if you think about it. musicals have fairly long stretches with dialog, but this was just singing from start to finish almost. and the songs were completely tuneless. i would have enjoyed it more with the same story as a thriller or black comedy (which in fact is how it was done on stage and film in england years ago).

In the beginning it was boring but as the movie progressed I ended up liking it, the only thing I would change is that some of the songs were too repetitive, like that Joanna song... got on my nerves

Weird on more levels than I can say. Though I am a fan of Broadway, so I knew it was a musical. That is actually the only reason I saw it. One of few Broadway musicals that I have not seen in one form or the other.

The thing about Sweeney Todd is that it is a relatively old/classical musical. Stephen Sondheim writes beautiful music; the score and the lyrics are fantastic. It's simply more in the style of an opera or a traditional musical in which music and song, and not dialogue, are supposed to move the plot along. That being said, Helena Bonham Carter is a TERRIBLE singer and her voice should have been dubbed in. However, Johnny Depp was great, and the actors who played Antony and Johanna were extremely talented. I personally thought it was awesome... it was funny and horrifying at the same time, which is a rare mix, and the ending is truly tragic.

I thought it was spectacular. And May, I'm glad someone else noticed what an amazing voice Johanna had. For some reason, a huge number of people seem to think she has a horrible singing voice. I think maybe it comes from the opera feel and the high soprano that the song she sings is in.
