To create demand for their movies. If they were always available, they would go down price, but if you make it so they are only available for a limited time, they will always be able to charge full price by limiting supply. It also makes it so people implusively buy the movies before they get taken away from the shelf.

Basically, by limiting the time in which you can buy the film and taking it away for a long peroid, they are able to keep the price of their films higher, than if they were always available. Kinda a jerk move by Disney.

I would suggest trying ebay, or buying a used copy off on amazon before people start jacking up the price.

Money. They do it so that if people know that is available for a limited time they will have to buy it. I know. My daughter is 3 and loves all the Princess stuff and most of the movies are in the vault until who knows when. She won't want to see them in 10 years.

Well, disney has many ways to make money and most of the money making and profit does not come from the movie itself. They have songs, toys, games, TV shows, etc. So the movie can sometimes be the least important. It is just a way to launch all their wonderful products. Disney only keeps their stuff on the shelf for a limited time because they know that people will have to buy since it will soon be off the shelf. There is a quote I have heard from someone on Disney that their obligation is not to send morals out or make a good movie, they are just in it for the money. And they have done both. Kids listen to the morals in the Disney movies because they are funny and interesting.
hope i helped!

I would definitely try out ebay. I just bought a Disney movie off there last week!

I would gladly send you my VHS copy for free. I think it's ridiculous too that Disney does this, it just makes Ebay and the like even more popular. When Robin Hood was finally re-released, I was out of my tween years and couldn't care less. I love Half-Price Books (not sure if they are national), because you can buy any movie there used, but in great condition.

They do it to make the supply and demand for their movies are up for a period of time. they want people to rush to the stores and buy their movies. I don't like it and it can be unfair like in your situation.
