Rendition, and if you like Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon star in this drama about the U.S. practice of having people tortured in other countries. Egyptian-born Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwally) moved to America as a teen and became an engineer. He goes on a business trip to Cape Town and when he doesn't return, his wife (Witherspoon) begins to make inquiries. It turns out he is suspected of a terrorist act and is being tortured in an unnamed North African country. Gyllenhaal plays a CIA analyst involved in the interrogation, and Meryl Streep portrays a key CIA terrorism official.
Control - it's about the late Ian Curtis who was the lead singer in Joy Division.
Have you seen Crash ? It's about LA, racism and how various people come together in a car crash one night. The good and bad people are not who you expect. Excellent.
from this week(19.2.2008) dvd releases i would recommend in the valley of elah but i would also recommend to look first for an old release that maybe u have missed in the passed couple of weeks instead ( gone baby gone, the brave one, feast of love)

Cool Hand Luke. Its about a guy in a chain gang that keeps escaping. It has a pretty good plot, his mom dies while he is in which leaves him no one so he does crazy things to give the other guys something to talk about!!
If youre into action types Enemy of the State with Will Smith quite a good film or if you fancy a classic action i would go for the Warriors
The lives of Others:
German film about the Stasi and Communism. Tremendous characters woven amongst the corrupt government, before the Fall of the Berlin wall.
Once were Warriors (my top film of all time):
Tells the lives of a family within the slums of New Zealand. A bitter story of pain, hurt, violence and love. As real as cinema comes.
City of God: (second fav film of all time)
Set in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. The shanty towns and ghettos come alive in a tale about two boys growing up in the worst slums in the world. One good and one bad, their paths criss cross from young boys all the way through to young men.
Amelie: (my third fav film)
The story of Amelie Poulain. Amelie sees Parisian life through a different set of eyes, simplistic and naive, her life has been sheltered through overprotective parents. Living on her own in Paris you embark into her world, where things can be zany, things can be offbeat, never though are things boring. A tale of emotions and loves. Great soundtrack!!
Hotel Rwanda:
A true story about what happened in and around the time of the Genocide there, some years ago. One man risked everything in his life to help and save others from the militia.
Sad and epic. All the actors put in amazing performances.
Stormbreaker is wicked!! or pirates of the carribean 1,2 or 3.

i usually dont like basic plots - i like a film to be different and unique - you should want filmwatching to be a great experience, not some samey hollywod rubbish. you should have stated what genre you wouldve liked too or how recent the film you wanted should be...

blood diamond, its about the diamond trade in africa sounds really boring but its soooo gud didnt think i would like it but its a truelly amazing true story
