Is Tarantino past his best?!

He still has more good stuff to come. "Death Proof" was taking on the style of 70's car chase movies, which tended to be talky for an hour, followed by 30 minutes of smash-ups.
For his next film, he won't be bound by those restrictions and he can do something really new and different.
not watched planet terror yet, but death proof although watchable, didnt seem to have the usual sub plots and flash backs that i got used to with tarantino. And that car crash scene, ouch! do you reccomend I should watch planet terror?
although i enjoyed "death proof" more than "planet terror" that's not really saying much. i'd have to agree that tarantino seems to have lost something. but then, i didn't like either of the "kill bill" movies so maybe i'm in the minority here.
The real question is, did he ever have a best ?
