Why don't they make films like The Deer Hunter anymore?!

Question: The Deer Hunter was a great movie, it was sad, which I love.
Hollywood doesn't care about the quality of movies now and most people today don't care either about the qualities, they only care to get entertained by 'cheap' stuff (and they cost more than the old artistic movies back in the days!).
The Deer Hunter was a really dark movie and it was depressing, but nonetheless, awesome movie.

You could also ask Why there are no actors like Robert DeNiro anymore.

People would rather see big blockbuster action flicks and the movie studios dont like to take risks on little movies like that. It's hard to find movies these day that have a big impact the way that Deer Hunter did.

there to long

Because Holly-weird just doesn't care about making films for any reason OTHER than to make money...

It has become little more than a BUSINESS - ruled by PROFITS and GREED!

And don't even get me started on overdoing CGI effects...

>:(

no deers left to many hunters

your right chris the deer hunter is a classic but how would you follow it without copying it?
let it rest as it is and us fans can watch it without fear of getting ripped off by a cheap copies

no country for old men is like that

Because the film industry perceives that the general public are unintelligent.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "films like The Deer Hunter". It was a very well made movie with a strong cast and a powerful story. There are probably 10-15 movies every year you could say that about. Maybe we don't see one that strong every year, but even in the mid to late 70's when The Deer Hunter was made there wasn't a movie that strong every year.

If you're asking about movies about Vietnam, I think it's because many of the stories have been told already. But there are plenty of movies being made about other wars and conflicts that rise to that level. I would look at Jarhead, Three Kings, Syriana, Saving Private Ryan, Flags of Our Fathers, and Letter's From Iwo Jima would be some relatively recent examples.

Here's a short list of what I would consider some of the very strong movies of 2007. Breach, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Michael Clayton, American Gangster, The Bourne Ultimatum, Zodiac, We Own the Night, Eastern Promises, The Kingdom, Rendition, and others.

The 'Deer Hunter' was bloody depressing.

The cost of making a movie like the Deer Hunter is one of the main reasons of making such great films. The actors would demand astronomical fees to star in them plus the time it would take too film epics such as this film.Them could cast and make two films or this one.Films like Dr Chivago,
Lawrence of Arabia,Ben Hur and Moses are long gone and
who could star in such films now ? I'm afraid we haven't the mega film actors of yeastier year to fill such acting rolls.

The Deer Hunter - an absolute classic of our time.
I don't know the answer, it's probably money, but the story line was great too. It was made in a time when there was a great interest in the Viet Nam war and many films were made around it.
I, like you miss them though.
