Romeo & Juliet (1968)
Everything about this film is perfect to me, just amazing, from the music and cinematography to the costumes and settings. The actors and actresses, especially the leads, are so wonderful and their delivery so right. It's as if a medieval tapestry has come to life.

Other films that are treats for the senses are:
Gigi
Diva
Legend
Camelot
Labyrinth
Excalibur
Ladyhawke
The King & I
Blade Runner
Kismet (1955)
Fellini Satyricon
Days of Heaven
Black Narcissus
Chronicles of Riddick
Lord of the Rings trilogy
The Jungle Book (1940)
House of Flying Daggers
Curse of the Golden Flower
The Thief of Bagdad (1940)
Jason & the Argonauts (1963)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
The Nightmare Before Christmas
A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935)
The Mummy and The Mummy Returns
Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow

Val Lewton's productions are remarkable b&w films:
I Walked With a Zombie
Curse of the Cat People
The Seventh Victim
The Body Snatcher
The Leonard Man
Isle of the Dead
The Cat People
Bedlam

I certainly agree about "Gone With the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz", both from 1939. They are magnificent films.

There are too many to mention, but so many animated films (especially anime) are amazing visions, from "The Snow Queen" (Russia) to "Howl's Moving Castle" (Japan); from "Bambi" to "American Pop"; from "Fantasia" to "Princess Monoke" (Japan again). I must say that I wish they would do more hand-drawn films.

Sunshine

awesome graphics and music was brilliant also was

Requiem For A Dream

beautiful story of addiction and awesome theme song... clint mansell did a good job..

definitely saving private ryan. its the best shot movie i have even seen..you feel like you are right next to them. the raw power and intensity definitely captures you in that movie.

as for the soundtrack..it was not a major part of the movie..which was good, i liked the different silent and loud parts. the music when present provided the raw emotion that the movie needed..

What dreams may come was visually a beautiful film, very vibrant, colorful scenes.

The music was breath taking.

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend the movie.

Saving Private Ryan, Very Moving

Winged Migration, about bird migration. Full length movie, beautiful breath takeing cinematography, amazing camera camera shots that makes yo wonder how they took them.
The music, not so much.

probably Gone with the wind and the Wizard of Oz...All the colors and elaborate sets...wow.

girl with the pearl earing. since it was based on a painting, the colors and lighting that were used made every scene look like art. simpy beautiful... oh and great story too.

This may seem like a strange pick, but "The Natural" with Robert Redford and Glen Close.

The two scenes (but there is gorgeous cinematography throughout the movie) that stand out in my memory are when Glen Close stands up in the stands in the white dress and sun hat with the sun shining behind her and through her, and the final climactic home run by Robert Redford with the sparks falling through the night sky, and the dimming light on the field as Redford rounds the bases.
.

Pan's Labyrinth

There are a ton of scenes in "Forrest Gump" that are truely astonishing. Especially when he starts jogging across america.

My favorite movies with vivid scens and beautiful backdrops would be...
What Dreams May Come
Legend
Narnia
Neverending Story (1&2)
Merlin
Pirates Of The Caribean (all 3)
Ever After
Forest Gump

the blue lagoon.great music as well

There have been so many, I'm not sure what the single most beautiful film would be. Certainly in the running is "Manon of the Spring", a French art film with wonderfully beautiful landscapes that are also realistic.

I am only addressing the visual beauty, not the score of the film.

Raw beauty and amazing cinematography can be found in "What Dreams May Come" Absolute beauty. The story, the music, scenery, everything. One beautifully amazing picture.

In my opinion one of the most beautiful films is Akira Kurosawa's Dreams, it shows seven dreams of his.
I recently watched River Queen, great music, great setting (New Zealand).

Atonement was a very beautiful film. My most favorite as well

A Beautiful life

Titanic
The Note Book
Atonement
American Beauty
Troy
Romeo and Juliet
300

This is a great question. Beauty comes from aesthetics that bind with emotions which is why a movie with with strong visual presentation generally will mix a powerful musical score with it to elicit emotions to enhance the beauty...and why truly loving someone allows a person to see someone as beautiful regardless of what others think (even if that someone is yourself).

So for me, the movie "What Dreams May Come" was intensely beautiful. However, I do have enough insight to realize that part of this was because I saw this movie shortly after the person I was closest to in life chose to kill himself...and if you have not seen the movie, it deals with suicide. So it brought out very deep emotions during many scenes that made me connect with it on a deeper level than just a purely aesthetic one. Excellent movie by the way.
