So for you, I would suggest (and it is a list as I am sure you will have seen some of these)
1. The Sixth Sense, with Bruce Willis.
2. Ring, the Japanese original.
3. Dead of Night, classic British horror from the 1940's.
4. Night of the Demon, classic british horror from the 1950's with Dana Andrews.
5. The Legend of Hell House, with Roddy McDowall.
6. Ultraviolet, tv series with Jack Davenport.
7. The Wicker Man, the original with Edward Woodward.
8. The Lost Boys, with Kiefer Sutherland.
9.Angel Heart, with Mickey Rourke.
10. Quatermass and the Pit, Hammer film classic.

I would say Sweeney Todd but its not out yet.
Amityville Horror is not too bad, but it is a true story
Or go to Ypres in Belgium and visit the trench museum
thats worse than any horror movie
one that makes me jump is The Grudge.

although it wasnt really a horror more of a thriller. and it made u think.
the exorcism of emily rose is also good. its not gory just creepy
Try, 'The Eye', or 'A Tale of Two Sisters', both make you think.
A lot of Asian horror films are like that, only when they are remade by USA do they lose all their scariness!!!

Amityville Horror is a gd one, so's any of the saw movies but they can b pretty gross! Red dragons meant to be pretty gd as well!

The best thinker horror film i watched is Identity give it a watch very good film. Its not too jumpy but scary enough its a real thinker tho!

SAW series is full of gore and horror. It's a lil' towards the disgusting side though besides SAW 4 DVD released last week .
