She didn't jump, she fell down. And yes, very very much!
I think she fell out of the window because she saw a shadowy figure at the top of the stairs that scared her, and she backed away from the shadow that was approaching, and stepped off the ledge. I think he did love her really, but his memory of Madeleine seems to hold him back.
vertigo is when you get somewhere at high elevation and everything starts spinning
