Isn't it time for a potentially iconic horror villian, who is also a woman??!

Question: Why is it, that there isn't any prominent and outstanding female horror villians??? And I'm talking more towards supernaturally inclined villians, like Freddy, not psychopaths, like in "Fatal Attraction" and "Single White Female"...

...any thoughts on this subject, or perhaps something I might have missed???

…well, as far as supernaturally-inclined female horror characters, there’s the character of Julia, in the first two ‘Hellraiser’ movies…

…how about the wise-cracking, body-possessing character of Mary Lou, in 1987's “Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou”…

…there’s the on-going Lilith character, in the “Witchouse” horror film series…

…and let’s not forget about the demonic Angela character, in the “Night of the Demons” horror film series…

...so you see, there HAVE been SOME supernaturally-inclined female horror villains, who HAVE made their mark; unfortunately, it is true that, with the minimal exception of the 'Hellraiser' and 'Night of the Demons' horror film series, women as horror film villains have sadly not made a commercially respectable and notable mark, as far as being, as you say, iconic...

...a refreshingly unconventional idea, which may one day see frutrition; time may tell, on this one!!!

There is one running for President. 8o)

We had the "Tooth Fairy" in "Darkness Falls", but there has been no sequel.

Virginia Madsen's character became one of those "Say her name three times" vengeful creatures in "Candyman", but she wasn't used again, was she?

Other horror villainess films are:
Dead Mary
Urban Legends: Bloody Mary
The Howling~Elisabeth Bergner's wolfwoman survived the slaughter of the werewolves.
The Gorgon~The possessed Barbara Shelley was decapitated.
Species trilogy~This is supposed to be science fiction, but the female alien/creature does kill horrifically, wouldn't you say? Natasha Henstridge has played Eve throughout the series.

So far, none of them have merited a revival. I wonder why we haven't had an iconic horror villainess, so this is a question worthy of a star!

Mainly, actresses such as Barbara Steele play many villainesses, just not the same one in a number of films.

Amanda from "Saw" is a female horror villain.. but I guess she's not supernatural

Actually, the first Friday the 13th's villian was a woman...the mother of Jason Voorhees. And she was EXCELLENT. i think is way overdue for this. Males dominating this genre has been little played out. The more recent woman used was Saw 3. However she was rather corny in my opinion.

Do I ever agree with you.
Ok, we have a decent start (sort of).
Annie Bates in "Misery"-but she isn't supernatural.
The "Alien" is female, but is more horror than supernatural.
Hmmmm, someone out there really should do something about this serious lack in our currently available horror/supernatural literature.
