Answers: what are some really great musicals out there?....please dont list grease! thats a given.

Phantom of the Opera: The broadway production. Though I think the 2004movie is good it can't hold a candle to the stage production. I've seen it live and saying it's amazing doesn't even begin to cover it.

The Wizard of Oz 1939- I'm shocked no one has stated this so far. 2 words. Judy Garland. I think the rest is history!

Wicked- Sorry, you'll have to go see this one on Broadway. It's very good and very original!! I've seen it live! It will blow you away!

Sweeney Todd-The 2007 movie. I haven't seen the stage production but the movie was wonderful!

Chicago 2002-Catherine Zeta-Jones was brilliant as Velma Kelly.

Funny Face 1957- What can I say? Audrey Hepburn is a classic and even though Fred Astaire couldn't sing, he could DANCE.

Across the Universe 2007- Spectacular!

A Star Is Born 1954- The one with Judy Garland. There are 2 others but the one with Judy Garland is the BEST. Why? Because it's Judy Garland!

Spamalot-Another stage production. "lovingly ripped off from" the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). I haven't seen it, but I really want to. I have the soundtrack and I almost die from laughter just from listening to it.

Meet Me in St. Louis 1944- It's Judy again!

Some others you should see:
The King and I-1957
The Sound of Music 1965
Mary Poppins-1964
South Pacific-1958
Royal Wedding-1951
Fiddler on the Roof-1971
The Rocky Horror Picture Show-1975
Moulin Rouge 2001
Cats(stage production)-You can get it on DVD.
Evita1996- Madonna wasn't as great as every one says. It was still good and Antonio Banderas is very nice to look at.
West Side Story 1961.
Singing In The Rain-1952
Funny Girl1968-Barbra Streisand, what's not to like?
Guys and Dolls-1955
Kiss Me Kate 1953-Movie was okay, stage production was much better.
Little Shop of Horrors-1986
Hair Spray-2007
HighSchool Musical 2006: It's good over all and I like the concept because it was about theatre and you rarely see that. It was a bit over the top but then again it is Disney

August Rush-2007: NOT a musical. It has music in it, which is very good and only Jonathan Rhys Meyers sings but it's NOT a musical.

Little shop of horrors,
"feed me semore"

hairspray, high school musical. sorry i know they're not very good! can't think of any

High school Musical and Hairspray and Wicked

cats

Godspell (even for those who aren't religious), All Shook Up, Hairspray, Rent, and Wicked are my favorites.

Best movie musicals - Rent and Hairspray

I have seen several Musicals in Germany (we are talking about on-stage stuff, right?), my favorite ones are these:
Starlight Express
Lion King
Dance of the vampires (I think this was a German-only production, I have never seen it in the US.. shame, cause it is awesome!)
I also want to see Wicked pretty badly.

Cats and Wicked

There's too many to have a favorite!! Phantom of the Opera (*sigh* Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman) and Les Miserables are classics. Jekyll and Hyde (esp. the version with Anthony Warlow, it will give you the shivers!), The Scarlet Pimpernel, and I'm seeing Wicked for the first time tomorrow!! AHH!!

High School Musical and August Rush

Singing in the Rain and High School Musical. =) :D :o :0 :P =P

My favorite has always been The King and I with Yul Brynner.

Also, The Pajama Game with Doris Day.

Moulin Rouge! I love it.

gentlemen prefer blondes
wizard of oz
sound of music
some like it hot
mary poppins

Sweeney Todd, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Little Shop of Horrors. Those are pretty much the only ones I like.

Lion King was pretty neat to see though.

Just about anything Willow said! Except for Highschool Musical, that show was just stupid, even if it was about theatre. I don't feel like re-typing the ones I like out.
