Who thinks violence in the media is bad?!

Question: its amazing to know that when the movie 'Psycho' was made, people were shocked and running out of the theatres scared from the famous 'shower scene' where it doesnt even show a knife peirce the lady's skin... whereas now we have movies like Saw that show every detail of humans being tortured in unbelievable ways...
does anyone think theres a connection between this and the rate of violence in the world...especially with young people?

i think that the amount that people are complaining about things like violence and obscenity on television and in movies and music, in entertainment in general, is ridiculous. while i see how we want to protect our children and youth from these things i also know that we cannot shelter them forever and sooner or later they will be forced by society and peers to experience the same obscenities. while it is one thing to want to protect the innocence of our youth many take their preventative measures too far (such as you already mentioned how the once left the theaters in fright because of a little movie effects blood)
yeah our youth is being desensitized by all of this, but in todays world the only way to get through your day for some people is to not care about the obscenities in life.

Yeah we are going to show you a video of a man getting shot in the head. Warning the man said god damn just before.

people are going to be a bad seed whether you influence them or not. I mean the worst serial killers and such were all way before our time. You think Gacy, bundy, and "son of sam" watched "dawn of the dead" or played "mortal kombat"? I think it's up to parenting to guide their children. some are just predisposed to having "bad wiring". I never heard any of history's worst criminals blame tv. that's an excuse.
