In the movie I am Legend are the zombies "zombies" or just mutated peo!
Question: Hi, I recently saw the movie a few weeks ago, and it was great. Regarding your question, to be a zombie, something must have died, then been reserructed by some means. The bad guys in I am Legend never died, they just survived the virus that hit the Earth. They are more of a mutated type of person that can only come out when there is no sunshine and who feed on blood.
At the end, they find a cure for the mutated and so if the movie was continued, the mutated people could be returned to normal.

In the book they are supposed to be ordinary people not super human. Not sure what the film was going for but was rubbish anyway!!

I just finished reading the book, the people are vampires- but mutated that way because of a virus. They die in sunlight, don't like garlic and you can kill them with wooden stakes. Can't wait to see the film.
They are vampires. This is according to the book and a few similarties the movie version has to vampires. They cannot go into the sun, they have superhuman abilities, and they feed off of the living. Also, if they were zombies, the infection would automatically turn their victims into other zombies, and technically they are not the dead brought back to life, just infected.

in the original book they are more of a vampire that's why they are unable to go in the light and crave flesh. for some reason they never make reference to this in the movie

My understanding is that they are humans who have mutated into vampires (sitting on the fence). More clues might be found if you watch the 1970's original. Can't comment cause I have not seen the original.
