Godfather II -- three questions... ??!

Question: Just watched Godfather II... again.
First, why did Frankie kill himself? Is there some sort of mafia pension if a soldier/lieutenant kills himself instead of getting offed?
Second, how could Michael kill his brother? I know Fredo betrayed him, but he was just kind of a dimwit who wanted to feel special in his own right.
Also, was there some significance to Michael having his brother killed after he said a Hail Mary?

Hope someone feels like sharing insights on this. I know it's just a movie, but these things plague my mind somehow!

Not exactly a mafia pension. But when Tom was talking to Frank by the fence he told him about how it use to be in the "old days" when a dead soldier's family was taken care of financially after said soldier's death. This was a better offer than the fed's could give Frankie. If Frankie had testifed against Michael....his entire family may have been killed.

As far as Fredo. Yes he betrayed Michael in the worse way. He almost got Michael killed because of his stupidity. In Michael's eyes this was unforgivable because it happened in his bedroom where his wife was sleeping and where his children come to play with their toys. Brother or no brother Fredo and his weakness had to go before he got the whole family killed.
There was no significance in the Hail Mary. This was something Fredo told little Anthony he did and always caught a fish.

I think Frankie killed himself so he wouldn't be killed...also because they had his brother brought in from Sicily. ( My opinion)
Fredo tried to have Michael killed. It was him who helped Frankie try to kill Michael after Anthony's party in Vegas. Remember when they shot up Michael's Room. He was week and easily swayed. He had to go.

OK and last Fredo said the Hail Mary's because he told Anthony saying the Hail Mary's helped him catch more fish.

Well, I'm pretty sure the significance of Fredo murder after saying Hail Mary was almost the same as the first The Godfather scene where Michael was attending the baptism while the others are killing the head of the families : Michael is cruel and he is using religion but doesn't care much about it.

Frankie Killed himself to protect his family.
Michael a cold blooded SOB.
I think there is more significance to the hail Mary than just trying to catch a fish. I'm sure Fredo knew he was going to die.
