Why are no children or comedy movies ranked in top 100 of all time?!

Question: Seems like All time greats should include more categories, or do we just not make movies like we use to or do we just use the templates from the older classics. My top ten upon further review is Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, A Wonderful Life, Star Wars, Grapes of Wrath, Shenandoah, Sound of Music, 101 Dalmations, Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Machine, and Bridge over the River Kwai.

First of all it would depend on what you define as comedy. Film standards have changed recently to where comedy seems only to apply to humorous movies but a comedy is any movie that has a happy ending. By this definition there are comedies on the top 100.

Also I consider ET, Toy Story, and Snow White to be children's movies which are on the top 100 list.

The reason why funny movies (I'm not going to refer to them as comedies) don't make it on the top 100 is because of the way the top 100 movies are chosen. It incorporates acting, directing, cinematography, costume, score, music, etc. With funny movies typically the only category they have is box office numbers. Now as any person should know just because a lot of people see it doesn't mean it's a good movie, Spiderman 3 for instance.

Typically the better directors choose more serious films and as a result those end up being the better movies. It is a fact of life.

And as for my top ten, in no particular order it goes as follows: Pulp Fiction, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Fargo, Pan's Labyrinth, Citizen Kane, Schindler's List, The Lion King, Taxi Driver, Casino, Shawshank Redemption

Donnie Darko
Half Baked
Lord Of The Rings
300
Braveheart
Garden State
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
The Matrix
Kill Bill
Hero

1. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
4. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
6. The Chronicles of Narnia
7. Shrek 2
8. School of Rock
9. The Care Bears Movie II
10. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring

Well, that was easy. Those are movies I could watch over and over again without getting tired of them.

Star Wars
Dr. Strangelove
Goodfellas
The Great Escape
The Shawshank Redemption
The Godfather part 2
12 Angry Men
North By Northwest
Braveheart
Schindler's List

Actually, "Singin' in the Rain," "The Wizard of OZ," and "It's a Wonderful Life" are all considered comedies, and I only went as far as #20. There's lots of comedies and kid's movies amonst the greats.

As far as my top movies: (perhaps in a different order)

Schindler's List
The Quiet Man
The Godfather (Ps I & II)
From Here to Eternity
Toy Story/Monsters, Inc (tie)
The Outlaw Josey Wales/Dances With Wolves (tie)
How Green Was My Valley
Bringing Up Baby
Duck Soup
Raiders of the Lost Ark

Yeah, I know; I cheated with the ties, but DAMN, I can't choose between them! And yes, I know, what about Casablanca, and Citizen Kane, and Ben Hur, and...

This is why the AFI has a top 100 movies, instead of a top 10!
