Why do movies get released much after the US?!

Question: There is actually a very functional reason for this - the film reels are quite expensive, so they wait until the viewing figures have died down in the US, then ship the reels abroad.

I don't imagine that's the whole reason, but it's certainly a contributing factor.

So the Pirates make some money!

because they are american movies.

Really big movies are usually released here at the same time as in US but smaller ones will release in US first and if successful will be released in UK later.

Its the same the other way around. British films are released here first and if prove successful they are released in US several weeks later

More and more these days they aren't - just to keep the pirates out of work.

It used to be partly because of the schedules in premiers and things like that, but also the British distributors would wait to see how well the film had done in the US before paying for the rights here.

American films are released into America first, before other ocuntries, its the same the other way round, British made films are introduced into the UK first before America. Its just because most films are American that it appears they get all the films first but they don't. Its the same with books too, especially if they need translating

I know it pis5es me off - films like Juno and Sweeney Todd got released ages ago in the US and yet they are only just being talked about here - by the time they do finally come out we practically know all about the film and it's ending/twists etc. cos you can't help but come across comments made about it on the internet, even if you don't want to.

so the pirates make some money; some of the best answers are already given.

Because all of the business side of things need to take place before it can be screened in other countries.

Only crappy yank fillums.

Proper films for normally-developed adults are however at the mercy of the Americans who mysteriously own and tightly control all our cinema chains in Britain. This is why it is so hard to see a British, French, Canadian, German, Russian, Japanese, Australian, etc., film, in fact any non-yank film.

Didn't you know that the US is the bestest country in the world and has the right to decide everything?
Honestly...

Because they are made in the USA.!!!
