What movies were these?!

Question: Hi, it has been driving me crazy over the past few days and i cannot come up with the answer.

My son was walkign along the other day and he said something like " open a can of whoop -*** on you" - i am sure it is from a movie - does anyone know which one?

Another one - i can't remember if this was a tv show or a book, but a guy told a girl to " go to the mattresses?" - i think it is supposed to be a quote from the Godfather? Does anyone know what this is from and what it means?

The first one is from There's Something About Mary.

The second one is quoted in The Godfather as well as in You've Got Mail......

Go to the mattresses~Prepare for a battle or adopt a warlike stance.

I've heard the first one in several movies and even t.v. show's. I don't know how it got started lol. The 2nd one is from The Godfather.
I assume"open a can of whoop-@ss" means they are going to kick their but...lol. I don't know what "go to the mattress" means, though.

Open up a can of whoop *** has been on several thing. It was said be Steve Austin on WWE Wrestling for a long time, It mean beat someone up.
The other is from The Godfather (greatest movie ever) Go to the mattresses means everyone is going to be staying at the compound (the godfathers house) because a mob war has broken out. Therefore they need mattresses for everyone to sleep on.

The first one can be from many different things.
One movie i know its on it The Waterboy - Captain Insano's (fictional wrestler) catchphrase
Also The Rock said it in his days as a wrestler.

The Waterboy had that line...there may be others. It just means that someone is ready to kick some butt.

EMT

the first one could be from anything, maybe Talledaga Nights
