In the books, she really went to OZ and had many adventures (besides the ones in the movie), but in the movie, they used "artistic license' to explain how she could be a girl from Kansas in a monochrome world, but still be a hero in the colorful land of OZ!

yep.. she hit her head..

It was a dream..... when she was hit on the head it knocked her out........this would be why most of the characters leading up to her getting hit were in OZ.

I think she may have fallen asleep in a poppy field (in real) and had weird hallucination type dreams.

course... I'v e only read variations of the book... so details are hazy.

they made the movie to seem like it was all a dream at the end

yes, she was dreaming. she hit her head and passed out.

?

Yes, she was dreaming in a unconscious state caused by hitting her head. Have you ever fallen asleep while watching tv? You tend to "dream" in a way what was happening in the movie. The people in her life turned into characters. It was a wonderful dream, eh?

Well there is a sequel to that movie Return to Oz, where it clearly shows that Dorothy did go to Oz. In the 2nd movie when Dorothy returns to Kansas, she can still remain in contact with the inhabitants of Oz.

If you want to know more about the second movie, just check the wikipedia link.
