"Creepshow" question??!

Question: I was just watching "Creepshow" (1982) and was wondering...
Is the story with Ted Danson and Leslie Nielson accurate? I mean, is it really impossible to move your arms and dig yourself out if you are buried up to your neck in sand? Or, are you truly helpless and would simply drown when the tide came in?

Absolutely. The next time you are at the beach. Just lay down and get buried. Feel how heavy it is. There is an immense amount of weight in that much sand. You could not only get out, but you would have trouble breathing as well. Most likely you would suffocate before you would drown, unless the tide was awfully close. That is a great movie. Haven't seen it in years. Goes to show don't mess with the wrong person's love.

it's probably possible, but also very hard.

i dont think that it is impossible to move your arms if they are not broken--

its like quick sand u would drown no doubt i love that movie

I love that movie! I used to watch it all the time.....and no he couldn't in real life dig himself out because the sand getting wet would almost be like being burried in cement. I think he only got out cause he was dead...plus it's a movie :)

IMPOSSIBLE,including if waves are coming in,anytime you seem to be getting somewhere the water comes in and fills all air pockets again.you have to have someplace to move the sand

That's a silly question. One could simply drink the whole ocean...

yes it is impossible cause when u r covered in sand it's like who's try to dig out from the hill,
sand is too heavy, it is not a water even if it was soft

They tested this on Mythbusters recently. The guy was able to dig himself halway out but after that the sand kept calapsing back into the whole so, he ended up giving up.
It took him a few hours to get halfway unburied if he had been close to the water he would have been drowned before he could get out.

long story short, Mythbusters decided it cannot be done.

Because of how dense sand can be when it's moist, and the deeper down on the beach you go the more moist the sand is beneath the surface, it can literally suffocate you if you're trapped beneath it.

Think quick sand, when you're sinking into it you cannot move or get your way out of it.

There is some validity behind the idea of the film, but keep in mind it is a movie with drama.

Yeah it's pretty much impossible, according to the mythbusters. But... they used their super zombie powers to dig themselves out after they drowned :)

It's like Leslie Nielsen says in the film, you can't get any leverage.

Yea, I remember that.

He'd drown.
