What happened in 1948?!

Question: I'd like to know all the info about what happened in 1948, from the top ten movies, top ten music, what was the fashion of the day.

Its my friend's 60th birthday so I thought it would be nice to create a bit of a montage of what happened in the year of her birth.
I've been searching quite a bit so far but I'd like to know your opinions and anything you have.

NOTE: The Hippies and rock music were a LONG way off in 1948! Someone needs to check a history book or at least pay attention in class. Rock 'n' roll wasn't really going till the tailend of the Fifties and was gathering steam in the Sixites. The Baby Boomers were starting to build up the largest generation there has ever been in the history of the world! Just think: Samuel L. Jackson was born that year!

i dont kno anything about that time themost popular stuff was hippie stuff
rock music rocked and i know nothing else

Have you thought about going to a Hallmark store? They usually have a special section of cards arranged by year and the card tells just about all the info you'd want for 1948 or any other year from the 30', 40's, 50's, etc. I don't know if Hallmark still offers a service (for a fee) whereby they will print up a little booklet that is specific to a particular birth date. I had them made-up for all three of my kids. The info includes how much was the average car and how much was a loaf of bread and a quart of milk? It makes for a nice keepsake. Just an idea...

So much happened around then. I just did some research and I hope some of these sites help you out. Good luck!
