Would classic movie beauties like Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, etc, top tod!

Question: I'd say yes, but then I'm biased. They had an aura and mystique about them that you just don't get with modern day actresses.

In my opinion I think they are way more beautiful, lady-like, mysterious and delicate than today's movie beauties.

But as for comparing them, our society goes through waves of what is considered "hot" or beautiful....times have changed. The thin, tanned, and airbrushed are apparently whats beautiful right now.

They are Timeless, not classinc and yes they could, those ladies knew what acting should be, not the wooden, butch crap we get now. They also were very female creatures.

Yes! Most of their beauty was natural, not man made.

I, too, might be prejudiced because those stars were poised, ladylike, and well-spoken. Of course, there are some pretty women in films, some of whom approach that classic look. But, I'd cast my vote for Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Greer Garson, Maureen O'Hara, Olivia de Havilland, Vivien Leigh, Merle Oberon, Gene Tierney, Deborah Kerr, Linda Darnell and the others.

Audrey Hepburn will always top any other actress still to come.

However, there are some classic movie beauties who don't correspond to our times taste, e.g. Mae West, Betty Grable or Jayne Mansfield. These actresses were considered as sex symbols. From today's perspective I can't really understand why.

I would have to say no, but only for this reason. The standards have changed (not neccessarily for the better). Movies back in the day were done with much more drama, more like stage acting. While I LOVE that, I also appreciate the quest for realism in movies now (even if it's not pulled off very well) which is harder to get when going for a more stage drama with a camera feel.

Also, there was the tendency then for even a strong female character to just need the right man to come along. Female characters have a more empowered strength.

I suspect I will get a lot of thumbs down on this one, b/c I can't quite get my point across w/out sounding like I don't love and respect classic movie actresses (prefer them), but I hope at least someone gets what I'm saying.
