It's the name of a street near the director's office. It started out as the "code name" for the movie - and they decided to keep it.
The guy who was directing the movie (same guy who directed Lost) was filming it near a street named "Cloverfield"!
Its true meaning is "Clever Fields". He wanted to see if there were fields of people who were "clever" enough to decipher his hidden messages/images in the movie previews and posters. Has anyone seen the movie yet? I saw it on premiere day...lets just say that I wanted more LOL! It was a good movie. Not better then Transformers though.
