Answers: your the one who puts the movies on .. your in the movie control room .. would you take a copy of the new top movie home with you to watch

No.
I currently work as a projectionist as I have been for the last 5 or so years, and let me tell you, after that many years, movies dont get as interesting to watch. All the movies just begin to run into each other just like another day.

Let me mention some problems with attempting to take film home to watch. (by the way, im talking about 35mm film)

1) Each movie comes on about 5-6 reels. Each reel is about almost a foot long in diameter, and holds between 25-30 minutes of footage. It weighs about 10 pounds. Times that by 6 reels, and you have a 60 pound film that is about 3 feet in diameter. That thing is too big and heavy to move. And if you drop it, it will get very tangled.

2) To run the movie at home, we would need a projector similar to the one at work. That cost about at least $10k and I dont even know where to buy one. And the projectors are pretty loud. And you cant rewind. They are set up to go in one direction only, so if you miss something, either too bad or start the movie over.

3) The sound for the movie is located on the film, so if I dont have a sound processor for my movie, there'll be no sound. With the exception of DTS sound, which is separate from the film, on a DTS disc, but normal cd/dvd players wont play that. You can actually buy DTS players from best buy, but I dont have a way of burning/copying them.

4) Some theaters have digital projectors. The movie comes on a hard drive, which is downloaded into the server of the computer at the theater. that is easier to take home, since its in the form of a hard drive, but it is also encoded differently than the normal (although its a type of mp4 format) and it is encrypted, and needs a license key at least every week to keep running, which is also encrypted.

2) Although it is illegal to have cameras up in the booth, because you are not allowed to have cameras where you can see film, we can watch movies for free. Why bring it home? And plus we can get fired. And possibly sued.

So it is not only not convienient to take movies home, but also a high risk and not effiecient. Besides, after watching the movie about 3-4 times a day for a few weeks, I just dont want to watch it anymore. The only perk to working at the theater is being able to watch a movie you want to watch, before it comes out (by between 1-3 days before). But then again, we have to watch movies we dont want to watch either.

no because it is on a film reel...
and they have cameras everywhere they
would catch you...

no cuz i think i would be sick of the movie if i had to play it repeatedly every hour on the hour

Films at the cinema are record onto film reels not DVDs, so unless you are a seriously big feel geek and have your own mini-cinema you couldn't really. That's how the pictures and sound in a cinema are of a much better quality.

1 they are on a film reel and 2 employees get to watch the movies for free anyways. there is no need to take it.
