Question: In the movie Atonement, was the girl (Lola?) really raped? I saw the movie with friends and the end made us wonder - when the girl married the rapist and seemed so embarrased to see Briony at the wedding. I've never read the book - does it explain this more thoroughly?

No, she and the guy were having sex and when they saw Briony the guy ran. To keep Briony and everyone from knowing that she actually WANTED to have sex with the guy she lied and said she was raped but didn't know who the rapist was. I believe that's what happened...but yeah that part confused me, too.
