  • yeah....just like art and literature and music.......all these amazing things just cooked up in some liars mind.

    not really.

the convincing part of acting may be construed as "lying"....but it's really not. salespeople, politicians and lawyers have similiar motifs (how they convince folks of their position, but they aren't ALWAYS lying to convince them)----you have to remember one doesn't go the movies to get "lied" to...usually that person goes to the movies to have a story told to them--in the point of view of the director and actors/actresses.

No it is not a form of lying. What are you, 5 years old? Everyone knows that acting is an art.

johnny depp says its "telling a story"

If you think so, then yes, acting is 'a form' of lying. So is writing a fiction book, or drawing something imaginary.

In my personal opinion, though, I disagree. When somebody tells me a story, I don't think he's lying to me for entertainment - there is no deception involved. The definition of lie is "to pretend with intent to deceive". When you purchase a movie ticket, or a novel, you should be fully aware that it's not the truth, that there are no warp engines, no giant monsters, no lightsabers that exist somewhere in the world (at least that we know of =P). As an acting student, I must disagree that acting is a form of lying - it's just bringing out another side of yourself, of your personality and mind.

If it is trickery, it is only because the audience -wants- to be fooled. They -want- to be lied to, and movies and stages are just a medium for expressing opinions and ideas.

Sometime people are being themselves and it's natural that it may seems as if they are really good actress and actors. Some but not all movies are made up. Some are just ordinary people reacting some else life. Lying is telling someone wrongful information. If you look at it, movies, tv shows or just for entertainment purposes only, but some with facts about life and life lessons when should learn from. yes some things they put out are just fantasies, but you should know the difference between lying and some one just pertending to be some one else.

I guess, if you're going to interpret it literally. But then I guess every time someone says "I'm starving" or, I'm so hungry I could eat a horse", they must be lying too, if that's your logic. Movies are just for fun. And what makes a lie a lie is that the person who lied intends for the person they told it too to believe it.
