Has anyone ever heard of a film called "The Goonies"?!

Question: A friend of mine lent it to me at the weekend saying it is "the best film he has ever seen".

I have had a look at the back and it all looks a bit childlike to me. It seems to be about a bunch of kids who go and get some treasure.

Don't get me wrong, I like a good adventure, but is this film any good? I have never heard of it so I imagine it was just a flop when it came out.

Should I bother watching it?

lol The Goonies are really funn!!!
i watched it once and it was great

i have it on dvd its ok its not a childs film exactly its more of a family film its good i think one of those films that has there good moments and bad

It's one of the most formative movies from my childhood. It's like Indiana Jones crossbred with a bunch of 13 year olds. Love it!

It's only the greatest kids film ever.

    It's great! An 80s classic

I remember the Goonies. It's a feel good family film and that's probably why you're friend likes it so much. It brings back warm childhood memories watching that. It's wholesome fun. Give it a whirl, if you don't like it you can always switch it off.

yip, its a good film i'm 34 and can still sit and watch it

Sure, Cyndi Lauper sang the theme. It is alright if you are into kid films. Some of it is pretty funny.

    Hey - you guys....
It is a classic! How can you never have heard of it?!

No, it wasn't a flop when it came out. It was quite popular. However, it's been 23 years ago.

Yes I saw it in the theater as a kid and no it wasn't a flop. It's actually kind of fun but not the best movie of course. Steven Spielberg wrote it.....watch it, it's not bad.

Here is a link about it:
    http://imdb.com/title/tt0089218/

I'm 31 and it's one of my favorite films ever.

    Watch It
    Own It
    Know It
    Love It

Any film with a character called One Eyed Willy is ok in my book :)

Don't be put off by the cover - they say you should never judge a book by it's cover.

It is hilarious, and very watchable - all my kids will sit & watch it again & again!

It's a good movie, you should give it a try! No, it was not a flop when it came out! It was one of the top grossing Movies in 1985.

    bestest movie ever!

It's a fun family film. It's cute, but if you're the type that wants blood-n-guts, you'll be disappointed.

sure why not....its a good movie....I have it in my collection...watch it and judge for yourself......its kind of in the same category as .....The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles....

It's a fun film but not the best film ever - watch it and make your own mind up :o)

THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!

you should stick it on and watch it really

its a gud laff, ul enjoy it!!

ps can i gt a lend of it after u :-)

    No, it's a rubbish children's film from the 80's.

It definitely is a childish (rather than childlike) film because director Richard Donner had some difficulty reining in the young actors. It's exuberant and fun, but it's also rather out of control most of the time. I would say it's good enough to watch once.

Frankly, when I saw it in the theater, I was so disappointed and irritated that I had to go to the next theater, where they were showing "Ladyhawke", also directed by Richard Donner. It restored my faith in him, that's for certain. Since then, I have watched "Ladyhawke" a hundred times~probably much more.

I have watched "The Goonies" only a few times. Occasionally, I place it on a suggestion list if the questioner is looking for an adventure-type film, especially for youngsters.

Be prepared for practically every single person in the cast to overact in a major way~children and adults. Absolutely everyone chews the scenery, as they say. The cast has a number of familiar faces who went on to much better films. Well, some of them managed to do that.

EDIT: If you investigate, you will find that "The Goonies" wasn't exactly a flop, but it didn't "rake in the dough" either. Here's a look at the figures, if anyone is interested:
    Budget
    $19,000,000 (estimated)
    Gross
    $61,400,000 (USA)
    Weekend Gross
    $9,105,913 (USA) (9 June 1985) (1 Screen)
    Rentals
    $29,900,000 (USA)

It's kiddy flick. No great shakes, I wouldn't bother. You can read a synopsis at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089218/
