Lucas went back and altered it so Greedo did because he didn't want to send the wrong message of shooting first and asking questions later.

Greedo did in the recent versions, but the whole idea of it is stupid. How could he miss shooting at point blank!! I mean come on, he was supposed to be a bounty hunter!!

To make han more "decent" george edited it that greedo shot first, but missed.
personally, it was a load of wookiee dung. There was nothing more wonderful that to hear greedo rant on and on and on, then han gives him a sucking chest wound.
Funnier still, no one really gave a bantha's butt about the whole thing and i bet a few of them felt greedo had it coming to him
