Games into movies?!

Question: Would you consider that games that are being made into movies is a good idea?
what i mean is Doom games series was/still is really great yet when the movie was made its not really close to the story line (i know that would have been hard to do tho), first person part was awesome tho liked that....
I just want to know peoples opinions on it because ive been looking around on the net and WoW (world of warcraft), Diablo and war hammer are being considered as potential movies

It's hard.... you've got to try and make a good film, but keep the spirit of the original game.
A lot of people complained about Doom's lack of action... while when you see the likes of the Hitman movie, you can see why...
One of the problems I see, is that most games that'd make good movies... are almost movie like in the first place... MGS would be brilliant... but we all know the spoil0rz if they copied the storyline and would be bored... and if they made it completely irrelevant to the games....we'd all get pissy....spirits within was a pile of bull...
As much as we all like to talk about what a great movie this and that game would make... they really shouldn't... most of them turn out sh1t and it's just not cool, and could risk harming the franchise.
Either make a game, or make a movie... don't do both... because most games based on movies suck too.

yes and abit of no

Unfortunately the movies are made simply to make some quick money. They are not really thought of as important. So they usually suck.

Doom is a good example. Afraid of the Dark is another, well all of them really.

Silent Hill was good though.

Most of the time, the only people that want to see the movie would be the fans, and they will already know the plot, so they try to change it to appease fans and nonfans, and that never works.

I don't think it's usually a good idea. I did like the last Resident Evil though. I thought it was much better than the first two and pretty good for a zombie movie.

Also, I know that Prince of Persia is likely to be made into a movie.

I think most games into movies have been awful, which is a pity, cos some do have the potential to be fantastic. Problem with most games is that the storyline is really secondary to the gameplay (you don't realise how simplistic the plot is cos you're absorbed in the game). One exception is Final Fantasy, but even those movies have not been very good. I still think it's a good idea though - somebody has to get it right some time

I think the main problem with Video Games being made into films is that not to many games have good stories to begin with. Movie studios wont spend heaps of money to hire a good screen writer who would take a couple of months to research and create a good script, because they know fans will see the movie regardless of how good it is. I will admit to seeing doom knowing that it wasn't good. Movie studios see dollar signs first, and will do anything to make as much money possible. That includes hiring a cheap Screenwriter, a cheap director, and cheap talent.

final fantasy is great but its too long... i thought tekken would be a good movie... also metal gear..

There have been dozens of horrible movies based on video games, and no good ones. I think that proves that trying to turn games into movies is just a bad idea. The fans of the game are always disappointed.

The gaming movies haven't always turned out that good. Sometimes it's hard to follow the movie if you haven't played the game. ie. Silent Hill.
