What is the difference between a horror movie and a thriller?!

Question: They're both scary aren't they?

Answers: They're both scary aren't they?

Horror is usually more involving of gore and blood ("Saw" and such) and thrillers tend to be more psychological terror (Such as "Blair Witch Project" which was very scary but had nearly no blood)

Yess... I think that a thriller umm hey I just realized I have no clue what the difference is lol.

Theres no difference.

Both scary yes...but I think Thiller is more ...'drag it out' scary..like you know investigative..and more thinking to it..figure it out type thing and Horror flicks just show it right out to you...BAM!lol (yeah ok.that was sorta queer..haha!)

In general, horror movies include some fantasy elements, like ghosts or monsters, even when the plot revolves around a serial killer (something that "could happen") a lot of events and the way characters behave are just unrealistic... example Friday 13

Thrillers are more real, they are usually dramas but with scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat, and the eventual shocking surprising ending, Thrillers are characterized by fast pacing and frequent action, and they are also less gory, and often present a crime related plot....example The Fugitive

The thing is that some thrillers use horror films elements to create tension, that's why the confusion, over the years a lot of thrillers have borrowed from horror movies to shock the audience, and is not rare to find scenes or even aspects of the plot that are so similar that creates a grey area.... example Seven or Silence of the Lambs

Amount of blood. A thriller keeps you on the edge of your seat. A horror movie shows you a lot of blood and gore.

i think thriller is more exciting than scary but horror is more abt the torturing & being scared & stuff

Thriller and Horror are not the same at all.
Put simply:
Horror = Texas Chainsaw and Thriller = Mr. Brooks

A thriller is a movie that isn't focused on gory aspects and actually makes you ask what's going to happen next or on the edge of your seat like the movie Stir of Echoes or The Forgotten. Thriller can almost be categorized as Suspense or Drama. Horror movies on the other hand are the stereotypical movies that you think of couples going to and the girl is screaming annoyingly or clutching the bf's hand. (or my description of horror anyway lol) Movies that aren't actually scary just over the top on some things. Think of movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, or Turistas.

Horror movies generally are high in gore and blood and lower in suspense. Thrillers are generally more subtle, have way more suspense and less gore.
A lot of times horror movies are very in-your-face, while thrillers like to make you fear the unknown.
