The director of the SAW series simply directs what the screenwriters write. Now, maybe the screenwriters are a little off their rocker, but psychotic, probably not. Compare the gruesome scenes from the Final Destination Series, is that screenwriter a psycho also. On that note, are all horror movie staffs psycho.
its not same director for each one you know, the original director didn't do any of the sequels so that would suggest that the films attract psychotic personalities and to be honest you don't have to be a pysycho to direct that.
Hes just really inventive and imaginative. Check out his latest movie Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon, its excellent!!

Actually, they reasearched actual torture deviced that were used in history and based ideas off of that. I find the director brilliant. The Saw movies are some of my favorite movies.
