this is an opinion, i haven't seen it but i heard bad reviews too
did u not see the previews? they even sucked
That's why I avoid Nicole Kidman movies.
It's because it's anti-God, and He got mad and did something about it!
i personally refuse to se it. I can't believe they would "kill God" which is impossible.. It's sad.
the only good part was the polar bear
yeh I have 2 agree. All my my friends came out going "that was the best movie" but I thought that it was terrible lol. the books are wayyy better :) its so funny at the end where they're all sleeping and she's jus talking to herself in the balloon and then the movie ends =D
It wasn't totally bad, the plot sucked, the graphical parts were good, but overall it has a stupid beginning and ending
i really enjoyed this movie - i thought the story was amazing and really different - i admit i haven't read the books - but want to buy them and read it now i've seen the movie to give me a taste for it. i thought the little girl Dakota was very good - i understood what was going on and i'd never read the story or knew anything about it. my children loved it too, they came home and pretend their dog is their daemon now.
I didn't read the books, but I actually really liked The Golden Compass. Yes, it was written by an atheist, but for anyone that has seen the film, did you detect any denial of God? I didn't. I watch the movie for the movie- let the writer have his views, everyone is entitled to their own opinion - but really, plenty of movies don't preach the bible, or mention God at all, and aren't necessarily considered atheist. Where in Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings, do people mention the existence of God? I didn't hear people complaining about those movies. The movie may not have been like the book, and Nicole Kidman may suck (I'm not a fan at least), but the movie kept my heart pumping, and made me feel for the characters in the story. I thought the rest of the acting was good..enough, and I didn't have trouble following the story. It's a movie that I will try and convince people to see that won't see it based on their principles against an atheist writer, because I don't think that's a good reason to miss out on a great film that isn't really even sacrilegious.
It's amazing how people can have an opinion about a film without even having seen it. They must be psychic! And as psychics are notoriously fallible, had they seen the film they would have realized that God does not die in the movie (and said event doesn't happen until the third of the books), nor is God or even a Church mentioned.
That being said, I'm not quite sure why the movie sucked. I think a lot of the wonder of the book - like figuring out just what the heck daemons were, and what Lyra's world was like - were just drained of all excitement when they were explained and shown in the movie. Also, it moved at a pretty slow pace and a lot of the dialogue was rather blah and forgettable. I really wanted to adore the film, and it is quite imaginative and great to look at, but it was basically just dull.
Actually, most movies this year have been pretty dull and disappointing. In retrospect, of the 50 or so films I saw, "Ratatouille" was the best.
