Who is being greedy in the WGA strike, the studios/production companies or the w!

Question: Writers agreed to give up 80% of their residuals years ago in an effort to give the new media (VHS) an opportunity to get off the ground. They never got it back. That doesn't sound greedy to me.

Today, "new media" includes all kinds of things that writers get NOTHING for. Authors don't sell their books for free. Songwriters don't sell their songs for free. Same thing.

When you buy a DVD, the writer gets four cents. They are asking for eight. All they want is more money for writing the film than the guy gets for burning the movie onto the DVD.

Know how much writers of I Love Lucy, Mr.Ed, and Gilligans' Island get for all those syndicated shows on DVD and in multiple languages? Nothing. Because they didn't have a union fighting for it at the time the shows were written. Studios, however, have made millions off those shows.

Writers are not being greedy. All they're trying to do is take care of their health insurance and pension and keep future writers from dealing tomorrow with the neglected issues of today.

Studios.

Studios.

They writers aren't getting nearly how much they deserve.

The studios.

The writers have written every famous word that have ever come forth out of every actor's mouth and they write the scripts that every movie, TV show, cartoon, etc. needs to be made.

They should be compensated for all the excellent work they have done in creating such memorable quotes like "Say hello to my little friend!" or "I'll give them an offer they can't refuse."

And for writing classic films and TV shows that are still being watched today.

Studio's writers are lucky to get paid what they got paid 20 years ago.
