...well, the original Walter Hill film maintained a sort of exploitive and grungy comic book attitude in the proceedings, and depite the fact that there was concerns that real gangs, attending the movie's showings, would got nuts and be up in arms over the film, this ultimately did not happen, as the concept was wild, dynamic & fun, and overall, it wasn't really serious...

...it wasn't until films like "Colors", where things took a much more serious tone...

Now, admittedly, director Tony Scott's filmmaking style has been known to be exploitive, dynamic and quote visual; if there was any other filmmaker to do this film with an appealing and dynamic sense of style, besides Walter Hill, I would personally vie for Tony Scott...

...however, I'd tend to agree with the first poster, in the sense that in the other film, the city of New York served as something akin to an almost impenetrable and challenging maze-like guantlet, with both the terrain, as well as the opposing gangs, as the Warriors attempted to make their way to Coney Island; that was part of the appeal of the first film. Having grown up in the greater Los Angeles area myself, not only is the city much smaller than New York, but also, it is not as claustraphobic and maze-like; it seems that the terrain is all wrong, to reset the new film in Los Angeles...

...unless, the film is set in the near future, at such time after the years-rumored 'Big One' earthquake has hit, and the city of Los Angeles, and surrounding areas, are in shambles, with revealed tattered and torn underground terrain, being used by cliques, gangs and the remaining surviving drecks of society...

Good since it may rekindle interest in the original. Changing citites is a huge change. Subways, and coney seemed like big parts.

Could be good. Some how I don't think they will be fighting with knives and bats.
