I didnt understand Donnie Darko!!! and I still dont....enlighten me...?!
Question: My friends went on and on about this movie, so I watched it.....literally 10 times or more and I still dont get it!
I feel like I have missed something as its a movie all my friends seem to love....maybe I looked at it the wrong way...

there are a few theories of what it is about and people have picked there sides and all the sides seem to make some sense..honestly I don't think there is a clear answer of what the movie is about
I think the purpose of the movie was to make you think, analyze and decide which explanation makes the most sense to you
the most popular theories with the most logical arguments are that the movie is about a boy with schizophrenia or that it is about time travel and the ultimate sacrifice that donnie choose to die to save those that he loved
The beauty of the movie is that it doesn't wrap everything up in a nice package. You are left to wonder if he really did time travel or if he really is insane.
I've only seen it once and plan to see it again. I really enjoyed it.

It's almost like a choose your own adventure book. The movie gave you another path that life could have taken. It's like as if there are several different lifetimes goings on at the same time and your only allowed to view one at a time. As if a choice that you make throws you into another pathway (the piece from the plane was from a different life choice and for some reason ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time - hence unexplainable, like it slipped through a wormhole or something) and leads you down a road whereas if you had choose something else you would have ended up on a road parallel to that road, but not the same road. I haven't seen it in a while, but I love that movie. I believe it's about a guy that gets caught between "paths" and actually gets the rare chance to "choose", where normally we don't see both sides like that. In real life we don't have a countdown to our death, you know? Hope I didn't confuse you worse....
Its quite simple. Donnie Darko fans are like curs. Dogs are always loyal. They are hardwired to never know better. The
fact that some have a diploma only proves they've been trained to nose around answers. To their way of thinking a
problem can be found for almost every solution; put another way, entropy has them outnumbered.
They are weird - let the blog world know it.

It was about a wormhole in time travel. Donnie entered the wormhole in order to save Gretchen and his family. Either his mom and sister would be on the plane that hit the house and perish, or Gretchen would be killed the night of the party. In placing himself in his room when the plane hit, he sacrificed himself. Donnie was never crazy...he simply was given the gift to choose his own fate, a gift that caused him to see crazy things and sometimes respond irrationally to these visions.
