12 year old see Atonement?!

NO!! 12 year olds should not be seeing graphic sexual content. The 13 year old actress in the movie was not even allowed to read the book because of its graphic nature. A lot of parents make this mistake and think their kids can handle stuff that no child should have to deal with.
Move to Canada! Its only 14A here. So if it can be considered appropiate for a 14 year old to see in Canada, then it might not be too extreme for a 12 year old to see.
I think 12 is a little too young to watch a movie like Atonement. If you want to explain things like the concept of rape to her then let her watch, and sorry if I sound condescending.
i dont think that she should see it if you dont think she is ready to but the movie is a big let down and watching it is just a waste of time .... i still (L) james mcavoy tho
just guessing (I don't know the specifics of why it's rated R) but 12 sounds too young for R rated movies to me. PG-13 would be a better but even PG-13 can be bad

There's some sexual material in the film that you won't want your young daughter to be exposed to, including repeated use of a particularly graphic euphimism for female genitalia.
Also, i think a 12- year old would be bored silly by the film.
